Griffing Finishes First - PGA Northern Open

Beginning the day in the first group and ending the day as the winner of the Cleveland / Golf Ahoy PGA Northern Open, Quinn Griffing, Professional at the Donald Ross Golf Club in Fort Wayne, fired a 34-33—67 at Pine Valley CC to take the title.

Griffing’s only bogey was on the first hole, but he came back with birdies on #4 and #9 to go out at 1-under par. Another birdies on #10, and back-to-back birdies on #15 and #16 brought him in at 4-under for the tournament and the lead. He then had to wait until the field of 156 players completed their rounds before being declared the winner.

Anticipating the upcoming competition at the PGA Professional Championship to be held at Sun River, Oregon next week. Griffing has played “solid golf for the last month,” and is “feeling positive going in to Nationals, and that is a good frame of mind to be in.

After the long wait, Griffing was finally able to collect the purse and the trophy.

A group of 69s shared second place. The pack included Jeff Huffman, Cobblestone GC, Denny Hepler, Racoon Run GC, Bill Schumaker, Crooked Lake GC, and amateurs Tyler Zink, Salem Brandon Smart, Pendleton and Craig Scheibert, Carmel.

The senior Professional first-place purse was split between Schumaker and Hepler.
