June 16th 2008 - The Indiana
Section PGA continued the Indiana PGA Pepsi Club Car Tournament Series at The
Trophy Club in Lebanon June 16th. Quinn Griffing of Donald Ross Golf Club was
victorious after shooting a 4-under-par 68 in the one-day, stroke-play event.
He placed second in this event in 2007 at Sultan’s Run Golf Course in Jasper,
but was able to defeat the other 68 players in the field this year for the win.
“It was one
of those rounds where I was really patient with it. I waited for opportune
times,” said Griffing. Patience was necessary because it wasn’t until the ninth
hole when he made his first birdie at the 576-yard par 5. After turning at even
par, he made four consecutive birdies at holes 13 through 16. ”That stretch was
actually the toughest part of the golf course,” he said. “I hit a lot of greens
and a lot of fairways,” he continued, which allowed for the birdie
opportunities through the challenging set of holes. He finished with solid
shots on the remaining two holes for pars and the lead.
Griffing
received 125 Pepsi Indiana PGA Player of the Year points and $2,000 to add to
his point total and earnings from the win at the Indiana PGA E-Z-GO
Indianapolis Open at Heartland Crossing May 19-20. He leads as Player of the
Year by over 94 points over Alan Schulte of The Hawthorns Golf and Country
Club. Griffing also won the Senior division for players 50 and over.
Dave Fleming of Otte Golf Center came in second after shooting 69. Ray Goddard
of Idle Creek Golf and Country Club captured the 60 years-of-age and over Super
Senior division with a round of 83.
The final Pepsi Club Car Series event will be held September 8th at The Course
at Aberdeen in Valparaiso. More information and complete results can be found
