May 13th 2008 - After opening rounds of 70, amateur
Tom Jones of Terre Haute and Denny Ford, PGA Professional at Pleasant Run Golf
Course, lead the Indiana PGA Senior Open at Otter Creek Golf Course in
Columbus.
After shooting a 1-over-par 37 on
the front nine, Jones came back with consecutive birdies on the par-4 12th and
151-yard, par-3 13th holes. Another birdie on the 172-yard, par-3 15th
hole gave him a 33 on the back nine to finish two under for the day.
Ford began his round with a bogey
on the 508-yard, par-5 first hole. A birdie on the par-4, sixth hole brought
him back to even at the turn. He made two more birdies on 12 and 13 and
finished out the day with pars to tie for the lead at 70.
Jerry McMullen (a) of Carmel,
Gordie Rees (a) of Albany and Scott Steger, PGA Professional at Pebble Brook
Golf and Country Club, all shot 1-under-par 71 to finish tied for second.
The 36-hole, stroke-play tournament opened Tuesday,
May 13, with a field of 144 amateurs and professionals, but was cut to the low
60 scores and ties. Players who made the cut carded a 5-over-par 77 or lower. They
continue on to the second and final round of the Senior Open beginning at 8:00
a.m. at Otter Creek G.C. on Wednesday.
