May 30th 2008 - Tim Frazier, PGA Professional at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in
Fort Wayne, and amateur teammate Sam Till of Fort Wayne captured the Indiana
PGA Rock Hollow Pro Am at Rock Hollow Golf Course in Peru with a solid round of
63. They were able to shoot nine under in the one-day scratch Four Ball format
May 29 to defeat 69 other teams.
This is the third year these two players have paired up for
this event, but this is the first win for them. In 2007 the duo shot 73 to tie
for 51st place. Despite last year’s finish, they came back as a team
this year and finished 10 strokes better. “We were never in trouble with a look
at a bogey and we were never both out of the hole; one person was always
playing pretty solid,” said Frazier. He continued, “I think our yardages are
very similar and that we see things well together. Both of us have enough aggressiveness
yet stay conservative enough to keep the ball in play.”
Till’s aggressiveness allowed him to record six birdies. He
got the round started on the short 296-yard par-4 first hole by placing his
approach shot to within two feet of the hole to go one under. On the 537-yard,
par-5 hole 3 he was on the green in two shots and two putted for birdie. He
sunk a long putt on 8 and made three more on 12, 13 and 15.
Frazier contributed by making birdies at the fifth, 10th
and 17th holes. On the 542-yard, par-5 10th hole, he hit
his second shot on to allow for an eagle attempt. He missed, but a two putt still
took them one more under par. “I think because Till hit it in the fairway every
single hole, that freed me up to play and go for a lot of birdies,” he said. A
par on the final hole of the round brought the win home.
Frazier has also won the Indiana PGA Team Championship and
Indiana PGA Pro Assistant Championship and can add this event to his list of
team victories.
Second place finishers were Brett Melton of Country Oaks
Golf Course and amateur teammate Kyle Brinker of Evansville who shot
7-under-par 65. View Complete Results
