Player of the Year Honors Bestowed

Alan Schulte, Pepsi PGA Player of the Year

For the fifth year in a row Alan Schulte has earned the Pepsi PGA Player of the Year Award.

The title was clinched for 2006 when Schulte finished in second place at the PGA Professional National Championship. He narrowly missed the national championship title after a three-hole sudden-death playoff against Ron Philo Jr. of Westchester, N.Y.

Schulte’s local accomplishments include wins at the Indianapolis Open and the 91st Indiana State Open Championship. His stellar performance at the State Open brought him in the clubhouse at 11 under par with rounds of 71-68-68-66 and a back-to-back wins with his 2005 Open title.

Finishing in 10th place or better in each Indiana event he entered, Schulte accumulated 1,578.75 points, bettering Quinn Griffing by 54 points. In Tournament Series #1 Schulte finished in 10th, tied for 6th in the Monticello Open and ended with fourth place finishes in Tournament series #3 and the HH Gregg Championship.

Schulte holds the distinction of earning both the PGA Pepsi Player of the Year Award and the Club Car Assistant Player of the year award at the same time (2002). Since his becoming a PGA Member, no other Indiana Section Professional has been able to edge him out of the Player of the Year seat.

Ryan Ford, Club Car PGA Assistant Player of the Year

For the second straight year Ryan Ford, The Legends of Indiana GC, secured the Club Car Assistant Player of the year Award.

Earning points in seven out of nine possible events, Ford accumulated 445 points, 88 points ahead of Woodstock’s Ricky Jones.

Ford completed the Indiana State Open at one-under par for a 13th place finish consisting of rounds of 71-69-70-73.

Leading all other Indiana assistants in the Indianapolis Open and tied for first for all assistants in the Northern Open, Ford finished tied for 10th and 24th overall, respectively. In two of three Tournament Series events, Ford finished third and fourth of all assistants, and additionally third of all assistants in The Southern Open.

Looking forward to participating in the 2007 tournament season as a Class A PGA Member, Ford credits much of his playing success to a supportive family and a network of loyal fans.

Bill Schumaker, Pepsi Senior PGA Player of the Year

This year’s Pepsi Senior Player of the Year, Bill Schumaker of Crooked Lake GC, has earned this award for seven consecutive years.

Schumaker, who had already earned an exemption to the 2006 National Senior Professional Championship by virtue of his fifth place finish in the 2005 National, finished in first place at the 2006 Indiana Senior Professional Championship. He finished tied for 11th at the National Senior Professional Championship after carding scores of 70-72-69-68 for a 279 total and a share of the purse. That finish earns Schumaker an automatic invitation to play in the 2007 event.

With 1046.66 points, this 1991 Hall of Fame inductee bumped out this year’s Hall of Fame inductee, Gary Gant for Senior Player of the Year for 2006.

Schumaker finished at three-under and low PGA senior after losing a playoff to amateur Tom Jones at the Senior Open. He finished as first place senior at the Indiana Club Professional Championship and Tournament Series #2, and tied for low senior in the Northern Open. He finished as second low senior to Gant in Tournament Series #3.

With partner Sam Till, Schumaker won the Senior Pro-Am after firing an impressive 17 under par at the Brickyard. He carded a 218 to finish fourth overall in the Indiana CPC after Quinn Griffing, Brad Melton and Todd Smith, and finished tied for 21st overall at the Indiana State Open. In fact, Schumaker placed in nearly every event he entered, senior or otherwise, this season.
