Schulte appears by virtue of his 2nd place finish in the 39th Championship, and all six earned the opportunity based on their performances in the 2006 Indiana PGA Professional Championship. (Griffing will defend his 2006 Indiana PGA Professional Championship title at the 2007 Indiana Championship in August.) Ron Philo Jr., from the Metropolitan Section returns as
the defending national champ after narrowly defeating Schulte in three-hole playoff at the Turning Stone Resort in 2006.
Beginning today, Thursday, the PGA Professional National Championship will
be played over two courses at the Sunriver Resort. The field will
alternate between the Meadows Golf Course and the Crosswater Golf Club
over the first two rounds, while the third round and final round will
be contested at the longer Crosswater.
Method of Play: Stroke play, four rounds, 18 holes
daily on two courses. The entire field of 312 will compete on each
course at least once in the first two rounds. Following the first 36
holes of play, the field will be reduced to the low 70 scorers and
those tied for 70th place. Those players will compete in the final two
rounds at Crosswater Golf Club. In the event of a tie for first place
upon completion of play, there will be a sudden-death playoff.
Coverage for the 40th PGA Professional National Championship will be on The Golf Channel beginning tonight at 6:30 p.m. ET and continuing at the same time Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings. Live scoring and continued updates and stories are available by clicking this link.
