Ricky Jones, The Woodstock
Club, Wins Monticello Open
“Things were in sync today.”
Ricky Jones, The Woodstock Club, pulled off one of those rare feats when the
golf swing is automatically synchronized.
Posting his second win of the
season, Jones synchronized his way to an 8-under score of 64 at the Indiana PGA
Monticello Open held at Tippecanoe Country Club and sponsored by Nike and Pepsi.
“I got up and down – or
chipped in – on every green I missed,” explained Jones. That definitely helped
contribute to his seven birdies for the round. He carded three on the first
four holes, and four more on the back nine, with a bogey and an eagle in between.
The bogey, fell on the #1 handicap hole, the par-four #6, and the eagle
occurring on the par-four #10 hole when Jones drove the green to about 25 feet
and he sank the putt.
Jones first win was for the
Indiana Pepsi/Club Car PGA Tournament Series #1 at Sultan’s Run where he fired
a 3-under 69 for the win.
Tied for second at Monticello
CC were Cary Hungate, Kokomo CC and Rich Schelsky, Rea Park GC, both at 4-better
than par.
Hungate attributed his 4-under
to the perfect conditions on a golf course he loves to play. “The greens are
the best I have ever seen them. They get better every year,” states
Hungate. With his best finish of the
year under his belt, Hungate will be traveling to Kohler Wis. to participate in
the USGA Senior Open Championship later this week.
Schelsky found some dry humor
in his round of 68. “It’s funny, I usually hit my driver but can’t get it into
the hole. This time I didn’t hit a fairway until the last hole.” Schelsky
carded matching 34s for his 68 and share of the purse.
